David Caruso: November 3rd, Election Day!

Tomorrow, Tuesday, is Election Day throughout The US. It's the only voice most of us have in determining who makes our laws. Make yours count.

Many states are voting only on issues and local offices; a few are electing governors. Every one is important. We're voting here on casino gambling (by a gaming monopoly), a prime issue affecting farming regulations, plus most mayoral, council and trustee races, and a few levies. Our primaries in September had one of the lowest turnouts ever, less than 15% in some areas.

Our unique position this year allowed us to do primary voting in Michigan, general voting in Ohio. This amounts to an entirely different ballot and issues; much to absorb in a short time.

People's Choice website is still taking votes for their awards show. You can flip through categories, vote for "CSI Miami" as favorite TV drama, write in David Caruso as favorite TV drama actor, without voting in any other categories, except...............if you don't vote for the last one, Rock Band, you won't get the 'Thank You for Voting' screen. You'll just get flipped back to the first category. Give it a try or, if you've voted before, do it again. You know the slogan: "Vote Early, Vote Often".

15% hu? Well that's not too bad. It's like that here when they have the local elections. I go traipsing off to some church...why are the polling stations always in churches? I hate churches. Besides, they always smell of wee! What's all that about?

The volunteers at the booths are always bored out of their minds and nearly fall off the chair when I walk in. This is down to the fact that I am one of the very few people who actually bother to vote and also that I take 30 years of the average age of most of the voters.

But if you can't be arsed to vote then you can't really complain when they screw you over. (Which they will.)
Politics, don't you just love it!

My big question is how many times is that darn casino issue going to have to be voted down before the high-rollers finally get it? Ohio doesn't want a casino anywhere in the state!! We'll no doubt vote it down this year and it will pop right back up for the next election. The gambling contingency just can't seem to take the hint (or they are trying to show us that they are not easy to get rid of).

The clue to it's value for the developers is the amount of $$$$ they've spent over 3 elections. Of course, the anti-casino campaign is largely funded by neighboring states who've been getting Ohio gamblers to spend money in their states.
My fear was/is that it would win this time. A poor economy is the best time for this kind of issue AND an election with low turnout is always more favorable for these iffies.

Yeah, CC, I love going to vote and finding I'm the only voter there, along with a dozen or so election workers. It's the same in Michigan.

BTW, Michigan has casino gambling. There have been absolutely NO benefits to Michigan, only to the developers.

Oh we have casinos, usually next to the lap dancing clubs which appear to have quadrupled during the last five years.

Our dim wit unelected leader was all for the 'super casinos' at one point. Great, so the work-shy dossers can go and lose even more money that they don't actually have. Casinos/Banks - can somebody explain the difference?

Well I guess we won't see the casino issue again. In your most recent posting you used the word "gullible" --- that fits the situation nicely. At least the political advertising is over; what a relief!

Hope I have better luck with the People's Choice awards. I have been voting for "Miami" and writing in DC several times a day.

I also have hit People's Choice several times daily.

The casino issue, which I thought was on ballot for third time, was actually on ballot 5 times. Yet, to believe the ads, all the $$$$ will go to taxes and 34,000 new hires. Yeah, right! Where's that swampland again?
