Horatio Caine shot, lying on the tarmac! Will he live? Will David Caruso be back in his Hugo Boss suits, cheesy one-liners and punctuated speech for Season 7? Those are the questions the Season 6 finale left open.
CSI Miami had a well deserved bad rep from last season's finale to overcome. They accomplished that with season six and then some. Corey Miller put together a smooth-flowing script, lots of action, good follow through with characterizations, tying up the season well while giving us a nice cliffy to tide us over the summer. The editors should be commended on their excellent work, also.
We've never made any claims to technical knowledge or interest, so that's not going to be addressed by this blogger. The new bullet and it's capabilities makes sense and plays a huge part in the dangle. The obligatory lab explosion provided some stressful moments for Calleigh (Emily Procter).
Ron Saris (Kim Coates) must be a great bad guy. We've rarely wanted to see one disappear as much. We appreciated Clavo and Joe LeBrock, even Resden; no such sentiments wasted on Ron. Apparently we have to wait until autumn to see his fall.
Kyle (Evan Ellingson) is back, so disappointed in Dad, so typical teen, with a What? Horatio, at his angst-ridden best, dealing with both Kyle and Julia; she still riding the fence yet with just a hint of "she'll do right in the end". Ryan (Jon Togo) has become a serious player and does it well. Eric (Adam Rodriguez) and Calleigh with their special moments, and Frank (Rex Linn) at his testy best, all in top form. Natalia (Eva Larue)? We've seen less cleavage on a lap dancer. We know it's wardrobe, but she surely has a voice. The 5-minute ME led to a less than impressive Thomas Wellner (Kurt Long); don't see a future for him here.
Everyone waited anxiously for the ending. It was a beaut. Tying it back to the signature broken sunnies seen thruout the season and factoring in the "new" bullet, the outcome for Horatio Caine (David Caruso) seemed obvious. Not so clear is the who and that leaves the field open for upcoming episodes. So many directions this could take with more excellent scripting. The demise of Horatio Caine is not one of them.
We liked this finale. It had all the necessary ingredients for a dangler; the fans are up in arms, creating the atmosphere CBS, JB & Co., AD, DC, et al had hoped. Let's see how it holds up over the summer.

What a great write-up Dojo! It was a fantastic finale. Of course, we know H is alive, and I think it's a set up so he can catch the bad guy, but it doesn't matter. They had so many interesting threads that it will be fun to see it in the fall and see where it all leads. I'm sure there will be surprises in store. I've taped all of season 6, so I'm going to watch it over the summer. A lot of times I'm tired when I watch it, so I'm sure I'll see something I missed. This finale was no comparison to last season's, which was a dud, to say the least.
I loved Clavo, he was very funny and played great against H. Too bad he's gone now, I'd love to see him come back.
Resden was also good, mostly because he brought out more of H's past. Maybe Sizemore will be back again, he would be a good nemisis for H.
